And in all that time? I’ve learned one thing: 

Email marketing is like exercise.

Everyone knows they should be doing it… but most of us aren’t, and those who are doing it - aren’t doing it effectively!

And that’s where the 3S method comes in.

Sounds fancy, right?

The truth is - it’s not.

The 3 S’s are...

...SUBJECT, STORY, and SEGMENT.

Here’s the thing about subject lines...

They’re often the LAST thing entrepreneurs think about, but the FIRST thing leads see..

They are a barrier to your email, and if they fail - the entire email fails.

As business owners, we can get so preoccupied trying to get the content of our emails punchy, persuasive and just plain 'perfect' that we often forget just how important subject lines are. 

Because at the end of the day…
You could have the best copy/offer/angle on the planet but if your subject line flops, no one will get to see it
Think of your subject line like a cover of a book. 

It’s got to be eye-catching, inviting and engaging enough to get people to A) notice it and B) read it! 

When writing emails, subject lines have got to be at the front of your mind. 

If they’re at the back of it? More often than not, you just fall into the habit of writing blind, uncalculated subject lines with no strategy behind them. 

That’s a habit we need to break…

You can start by using these 4 different subject lines to form an effective strategy: 

Direct Benefit
Example: [Revealed] New 7 Step Email Marketing Strategy To Boost Your Profits...
With a subject line like this, your leads know what they’re getting. There’s no fluff or BS and definitely no room for misinterpretation. 

Remember… 

The digital age has made our lives crazy busy, including our inboxes, so sometimes the best route is the direct one. 

Proof of Results
Example: How This Simple Strategy Increased My Clicks By 33%...
In a world full of self-proclaimed gurus and constant big claims - real, genuine proof is POWERFUL. 

(If you don’t already, I highly recommend keeping track of everything so you can start building up “evidence” to use in proof-based emails!)

Much like the “Direct” subject line strategy, with one based on proof, people know precisely what they’re getting, but in this case, they actually know what you’re offering them works too!  

In an instant, you’ve built credibility. 

Scarcity
Example: [Final Warning] Your Access Expires in 24 Hours...
There are 2 things about human nature that you need to know (and exploit): 

People HATE missing out on things.

People LOVE to feel like they’ve got an advantage over someone else. 

You can use both to your advantage in scarcity subject lines! 

Scarcity also adds a sense of urgency to their actions, a kind of pressure that secretly people thrive off. 

Curiosity
Example: I’ve Got Something Important To Show You...
Curiosity is king in marketing. 

We all have an innate desire to know everything these days and cure our curiosity. 

With a subject line like this, you could be showing them ANYTHING, but they’ll definitely open the email at the very least to find out what it is! 

So, as far as subject lines are concerned…. 

To get and maintain high open rates, every sequence you send out to your list needs to have the right mix of the right subject lines.

The trick?

Writing stories that capture your reader's attention and lead them on the journey YOU want them to go on…

… and that takes a lot of practice.
